This article discusses legislature and scientific cases associated with the use of laboratory animals. While they believe that animals should not be used if there is a better alternative however the use of animals in treatments and experiments we can gain a lot of knowledge. It then give us links to legislature related with the welfare of animals in laboratory research. These links allows us to see that there are laws in America that regulate the welfare of animals and that unusual pain and suffering cannot be applied to the animals. Additionally, for many facilities, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees are established that regulate and determine whether animal use is allowed in research laboratories. Additionally, this article allows us to understand the benefits that animal testing can begins to both animals and humans. The benefits for animals are by using animals in animal oriented studies we can learn more about the health of animals around the world and our pets. For example, by studying cancer in dogs we can learn how to treat the cancer and what treatments are successful. The benefits for humans is that animals can be used to easily study cancer in both animals and humans. Thus, we can learn how to easily treat cancer in treatments. Some potential quotes are... "For example Dr. Sylvie Cloutier found that rats that were tickled first actually exhibited less stress when they received an injection."(AVMA 3.) "This is a use of research that could benefit decades of Goldens in the future." (AVMA 2.) "Such models strive to increase our understanding of the etiology and dissemination of ovarian cancer in order to overcome barriers for early detection and resistance to standard chemotherapy." (AVMA 4.) This source is very reliable since it comes from a national organization with a lot of recognition. They are the leading advocate for the veterinary profession. The AVMA protect, promote and advance the needs of all veterinarians and those they serve. This article is going to work well into my research since I need actual evidence to support both sides of the argument.
